Ten Years of Brass Blast
Ten years of Brass Blast - the best is still to come
Since 2016, Brass Blast has brought together young people aged 9–18 from across East Edinburgh to learn brass, reeds and street drumming, and to play together in a band that is creative, innovative and open to everyone. Founded by Oi Musica to address the shortage of accessible music-making opportunities in the area, Brass Blast has grown into Scotland's only project of its kind - picking up 2 prestigious award along the way.
Ten years is a big deal! Our first cohort of players has now left school, and includes emerging young musicians, trainee music tutros and community music practitioners. We're as proud of them as we are of our newest players just starting out on their musical journey. Learning an instrument is hard - doing it as part of a big, supportive extended family makes a world of diffrence. Follow our 10th Anniversary celebrations here - from a brand new video series telling the story of the band in their own words, to the recording of Brass Blast's very first EP, an exciting schedule of gigs and festivals, and a trip to London to perform at the Southbank Centre alongside Kinetika Bloco.

We've made and EP!
To mark Brass Blast’s 10th anniversary, our young players have the very first Brass Blast EP - 'Rising Up!'.
Featuring two original tracks written by the group, alongside their own take on AWOLNATION’s Sail.
It’s a brilliant snapshot of Brass Blast today and a great way to celebrate ten years of making music by giving young people the chance to create something of their own.
The EP was recorded at Edinburgh College with Christian Torre Zorita and Francesco Lo Cascio, and the artwork was created by Brass Blast player Mairi Melvin.
Give it a listen, show our young players some love, and support Brass Blast on Bandcamp!
Brass Blast 10th Anniversary T-shirt
We made a special T-shirt to celebrate 10 years of Brass Blast!
Featuring artwork created especially for the anniversary by Oi Musica's good friend Doug Summers.
It’s a little piece of Brass Blast history and a great way to show your support for the project.
Grab one, wear it proudly, and help us keep Brass Blast going for the next ten years!
