Cuban Big Band at Oi Musica
Oi Musica & La Timbala run twice-yearly Cuban Big Band weekenders with Cuban music specialist Christian Weaver (director of Orquesta Timbala).
Over two days, brass, reeds and vocalists come together to explore the rhythms, melodies and energy of Cuban big band music — finishing with a relaxed sharing gig on Sunday evening. These workshops are open to players of all abilities (working by ear, no scores), with learning resources provided in advance.
It’s all about the buzz of playing this joyous, danceable music in a large ensemble — and getting inside the history, rhythm and feel that makes Cuban big band so unique.
